Here’s the news of the day:
Minnesota Democratic lawmakers Sen. John Hoffman and Rep. Melissa Hortman, along with their spouses, were shot overnight in Champlin and Brooklyn Park by a suspect impersonating a police officer, according to FOX 9 sources.
The current conditions of the victims are unknown, but reports suggest that they are in grave danger; both lawmakers represent districts in the northern Twin Cities suburbs—Hortman from Brooklyn Park (District 34B) and Hoffman from Champlin (Senate District 34).
Brooklyn Park police issued a warning: “Do not answer the door unless two officers approach together. Call 911 to verify officer identity first.”

Amid nationwide protests over Trump-era immigration raids, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier and law enforcement officials issued a stern warning to demonstrators, with one sheriff declaring, “We will kill you” if protests turn violent, according to CNN affiliate WESH.
Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Roger Wicker and many fellow Republicans expressed discomfort with Trump's planned military parade in Washington, D.C., which coincides with his birthday. Most GOP senators surveyed by CNN said they would not attend, citing prior commitments, fiscal concerns, or general disinterest—leaving Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall as one of the few planning to be there.
Around 60 veterans and military family members were arrested outside the U.S. Capitol after breaching a police barrier during a planned sit-in protest against Trump’s deployment of the National Guard and Marines in Los Angeles and a scheduled military parade. Capitol Police reported that the group had initially demonstrated peacefully at the Supreme Court before approaching the Capitol steps, prompting officers to set up a perimeter.

Following a fatal Air India crash that killed at least 270 people, India’s aviation minister announced urgent inspections of all Boeing 787s in the country, with extended surveillance already underway on the 34 aircraft in the national fleet. Despite criticizing immigrants for “stealing jobs,” Trump’s businesses have hired nearly 2,000 foreign workers since 2008, including a record 178 temporary visa requests in 2024. For 2025, the Trump Organization has already posted to hire 31 foreign workers for its winery.

Terrell claimed the Environmental Law Clinic was placed under a gag order, with university emails revealing concerns that the clinic’s work was jeopardizing a redevelopment project tied to state and private funding.
See you throughout the day.
